BONUS EPISODE - Uncut Gems

This week, we watch an under-appreciated film from last year that is, as of today, streaming on Netflix. This movie isn’t on the top 250…but hey, we’re all stuck inside (the responsible ones, anyways - looking at you idiots packing in public pools), and is perfect if you’re looking for fictional stress to overtake your real life stress. Adam Sandler arguably gives his best performance to date, and Kevin Garnett and The Weeknd are written in as themselves in very cool cameos, if you can call it that. Uncut Gems (2019), directed by the Safdie Brothers (Benny and Josh).

BONUS EPISODE - Parasite

This week, we watch the film that just won Best Picture at the Oscar’s (as well as Best Director, Best Writing, and best Foreign Picture). It is also currently very high on the IMDB top 250 list. We couldn’t recommend this movie enough, and we highly recommend watching it without watching a trailer or reading about it. Parasite (2019), directed by Bong Joon-ho.

Episode 156 - Fargo

This week, we watch the snowy, bloody, accent-heavy crime film set in rural Minnesota. This movie is equal parts hilarious and terrifying, and is frequently both at the same time. Is this one of the Coen brothers best films? Oh yah, you betcha. Fargo (1996), directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Episode 158 - Dial M For Murder

This week, we watch the classic Alfred Hitchcock adaptation of the stage play about organizing and attempting the murder of a cheating wife. Great acting and fun plot twists keep this film entertaining throughout, which is a feat, given that the film takes place almost entirely in just one room. And we hope you like dialogue. Dial M For Murder, directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Episode 165 - The Thing

This week, we watch a dog turn into a spider, a head turn into a spider, a chest turn into a mouth, and a hole bunch of aliens set fire in the snow. This classic sci-fi horror keeps us guessing as to who we can trust, and who is going to die next.  One thing is for sure, Kurt Russell's hair is glorious.  The Thing (1982), directed By John Carpenter.

Episode 166 - No Country For Old Men

This week, we watch the movie that features the creepiest haircut ever to grace the silver screen.  One man finds a bag of money in a drug deal gone wrong.  The haircut then proceeds to murder everyone in its path on its quest to retrieve the money.  The FBI agent from The Fugitive is on the case.  No Country For Old Men (2007), directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Episode 170 - Gone Girl

This week, we watch the twist laden thriller, based on the hugely popular Gillian Flynn book.  Fincher's style seeps into this film, who is lead by Ben Affleck, but stolen by Rosamund Pike. And if you think you might be watching a bloodless Fincher movie two hours into this 2.5 hour film, you will be proven very wrong. Gone Girl (2014), directed by David Fincher.

Episode 186 - Shutter Island

This week, we watch the mind-bending thriller that begs to be viewed more than once.  Leonardo Dicaprio is a detective that is about to blow the lid off of a government conspiracy located within a mental institution on a remote island off the coast of Boston...or so we are lead to believe.! Shutter Island (2010), directed by Martin Scorsese.

Episode 195 - Wild Tales

This week, we watch the film that took the country of Argentina by storm, smashing all of the box-office records, and earning a Best Foreign Picture nomination in the 2015 Oscars.  Comprised of six stories that, according to the director, are "linked by violence, and nothing else", this film lets its characters go far beyond typical socially accepted behavior, and explore what might result if people acted solely on their instincts.  Wild Tales (2014), directed by Damian Szifron.

Episode 198 - Touch of Evil

This week, we watch the character study disguised as a crime thriller, where Orson Wells flexes his impressive acting chops in a movie he also writes and directs.  Drugs, murder, sex, and lots of lying fill this classic noir film, which takes place in a Mexican boarder town, and has two police officers (Charlton Heston and Wells) clashing in an investigation.  Touch of Evil (1958), Directed by Orson Wells.

Episode 200 - Jurassic Park

This week, we watch the film that brings back dinosaurs in the groundbreaking blockbuster that combines horror, drama, comedy, action, adventure, sci-fi...really, this movie does it all.  Now with four films in the franchise (Jurassic World is currently the 4th highest grossing movie of all time), the original still towers over the sequels, with special effects that somehow didn't age a day. Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg.
